Production Specification

Clay bit is a kind of bit mix between “Drag Bit” and “Claw Bit”, also can use for reverse circulation drilling.

Drilling diameter……12 1/4” (311mm), 15” (381mm)

Thread connection……7 5/8” API-REG.

Optional spare parts: cutters on the 3 wings; central peak cutter (central pike).

Structural property:

It be added wear-resisting alloy layer protection by “stalinite” beams on both plates: front&right edges on the 3 wings, the cutter top on the wings.

The cutter on three wings can be rotated freely to avoid its nonuniform wear during drilling.

Thre present high-quality drag bits be equipped with the drilling bit teeth with max shear for abrasive formations. The drag bit shall be resitant enough for drilling the wells with the sensity of min 500 meters.

The flow inside the iternal pipe of reverse circulation rod is about 50M3/h (without taking in account evolution of pressure at succion of “drag bit”.

Suitable drill rid: Reverse circulation rotary Drill Rid. E.g. BL (boart Longyear) drill rig, etc…

Operation Parameters:

● Rate of penetration in upper sands and clay mix: 6 to 8 m/h

● Rate of penetration in clay: 6 to 7 m/h

● Rate of penetration in Uyuk sands: 10 to 20 m/h

Application Formation:

Soft formation with low compressive strength and high drillability. Such as sands, clay and Uyuk sands, etc…

Test report of drill bits 12 1/4” RC for reverse circulation water well drilling:

While industrial testing of rock cutting tools as Drilling bit for BL drilling rid the results as following have been received:

1. 460 m were drilled on the well MSU48-08-B. After completion of drilling 3cutters (teeth) were changed. Significant wearing by diameter of housing of drilling bit was indetified.

2. 450 m were drilled on the well MSU48-04-03-B. After completion of drilling the wearing by diameter of drilling bit at housing was indentified.

3. Currently 60 m have been drilled on the well MSU48-06-02-B2. Drilling rid is in the process of well drilling. No data about wearing have been reported.

General conclusion: Drilling bit showed good result. Total expected ROP-till 1300-1400 m in case of possibility to change worn cutters.

General recommendations:

l Strengthening of drilling bit housing is required in order to avoid abrasive wear.

l While manufacturing of drilling bit it’s recommended to equip the bit with stiffer core.

 

Claw Bit:

Claw bit offers rapid penetration, drilling speed as faster than that of a drag bit, and being as tough as a roller rock bit. They feature field replaceable bullet shaped cutters. Their cutters, which are economical, inexpensive and replaceable, are designed to rotate in their blocks to provide a self sharpening effect, thus extending thelife of the bit and reducing torque. They have one circulation hole per cutter, in order to provide maximum hole cleaning.Claw bits body, cutters, and pilots can be ordered separately or assembled. We can offer claw bits in different sizeswith a number of thread connections.

Claw bit drill bits are an excellent choice for soft to medium formations. Claw bits devour gravel, and drill well through, clays; shale’s and sand stones.

Step-Type Drag Bits

Step-type drag bits come in a variety of wing counts, steps, and sizes to accommodate drilling in a variety of formations, from sand and clay to shale, limestone, gravel, and more.

◆Three-Wing and Four-Wing - Three-wing bits tend to drill faster, whereas four-wing bits are longer lasting, more durable, and drill a straighter hole.

◆ Regular Step and Heavy Step - Regular Step bits develop smaller cuttings, whereas Heavy Step bits are more durable and are used in harder formations. Heavy Step bits have longer and wider steps and contain larger carbide for cutting. The quantity of steps is largely determined by the size of bit.
